The Jordanian Passport in 2026: Visa-Free Travel, US E-2 Access and Residence Through Property

Clients rarely choose Jordan for travel. They choose it for business in the region and for the United States. Here is what the passport and the residence permit actually give, checked on 28 October 2026.
Travel without a visa
The BRIDGES Passport Index of 4 October 2026 gives this picture:
| Entry regime | Destinations |
|---|---|
| Visa-free | 25 |
| Electronic authorisation | 4 |
| Visa on arrival | 21 |
| eVisa | 52 |
| Visa required in advance | 124 |
That is 50 of 226 destinations without a prior visa and rank 86 of 199. Visa-free destinations in the index include Türkiye, Egypt, Malaysia, Georgia and Hong Kong. Entry rules are set by the receiving states and change, so I check them before each trip.
Europe, the UK and North America
Jordan is in Annex I of EU Regulation 2018/1806, the list of countries whose citizens need a visa for the Schengen area. BRIDGES lists the UK, the US, Canada and Japan as visa required as well. If visa-free Europe is the goal, Jordan does not solve it.
The US E-1 and E-2 visas
This is the main practical argument. Jordan is on the US Department of State list of treaty countries for E-1 treaty trader and E-2 treaty investor visas, which a search of that page showed in force since 17 December 2001. I could not open the page itself from my location, but the US Embassy in Amman describes its own E-visa unit and the application steps. The visa still requires a substantial investment in a real US enterprise and a decision by the consulate.
Residence through property
Separately from citizenship, the Ministry of Investment criteria offer a five year renewable residence permit for the investor and eligible family members:
| Property | Minimum value |
|---|---|
| One property bought from a real estate developer | JOD 200,000 (about $282,000) |
| One property bought from another seller | JOD 300,000 (about $423,000) |
| One or more properties outside the Capital Governorate | JOD 150,000 in total (about $212,000) |
The value is set by the Department of Lands and Survey, and the property must be kept for five years without being sold or mortgaged. At renewal the investor must still own it or an equivalent property. The 2025 decision had only the JOD 200,000 developer option; the JOD 300,000 and JOD 150,000 options came with the July 2026 amendments. This permit does not lead to citizenship by itself.

For Russian citizens
According to the BRIDGES entry table of 4 October 2026, Russian citizens enter Jordan visa-free for up to 90 days, which makes preliminary trips for company and property matters simple.
What I would weigh
The passport is mid-ranked and does not open Europe, but it combines E-2 eligibility, an asset that stays yours and a base in the Middle East. If those three things matter to you, read the complete guide next.
Questions and answers
How many countries can I visit without a visa?
The BRIDGES Passport Index of 4 October 2026 counts 50 of 226 destinations without a prior visa: 25 visa-free, 4 with an electronic authorisation and 21 with a visa on arrival. The passport ranks 86th of 199.
Can I travel to Europe without a visa?
No. Jordan is listed in Annex I of EU Regulation 2018/1806, so its citizens need a Schengen visa. BRIDGES lists the UK and the US as visa required too.
Does a Jordanian passport give access to the E-2 visa?
Jordan is on the US Department of State list of treaty countries for E-1 and E-2 visas, and the US Embassy in Amman runs an E-visa unit. Eligibility is the right to apply, not a guarantee of a visa.
Is there residence through property?
Yes. Since July 2026 a five year renewable residence permit is available for a property from a developer of at least JOD 200,000, from another seller of at least JOD 300,000, or outside the capital of at least JOD 150,000, held for five years. It is residence, not citizenship.
